Anhui’s agricultural exports reached 730 million yuan ($109 million) in January, up 3.3 percent from the same period a year ago, statistics showed.

The eastern Chinese province’s agricultural exports made up 3.3 percent of the total last month.

Exports of tea, down, vegetables and honey experienced steady growth, while exports of Chinese herbal medicines and oil seeds declined.

Tea exports stood at 140 million yuan, an increase of 19.1 percent. Down exports skyrocketed 91.5 percent to 130 million yuan. Vegetable and honey exports reached 50 million yuan and 40 million yuan, up 11.9 percent and 9.9 percent, respectively.

Herbal medicine exports reached 80 million yuan, down 11.3 percent year-on-year, and oil seed exports dropped 27.4 percent to 20 million yuan.

The province exported 350 million yuan of agricultural products to Asian markets, accounting for 48.3 percent of the total.

South Korea, the United States and Japan were the top three markets for Anhui’s agricultural exports, together making up 28.9 percent of the total.

Local customs suggested the province raise the quality of herbal products to make them more competitive in global markets.
