Anhui Sees Tourism Boom during May Day Holiday

The tourism industry in East China's Anhui province raked in 13.44 billion yuan ($2.13 billion) in revenue during the three-day May Day holiday, up 34.32 percent from a year earlier, data from the local tourism development commission showed.

Tourist destinations across the province received a total of 29.19 million tourists from April 29 to May 1, representing a year-on-year increase of 18.04 percent.

Longchuan, a well-known scenic spot in Jixi county, posted a 17.33 percent year-on-year rise in the number of visitors during the holiday, followed by Jiuhua Mountain, one of China’s four Buddhist mountains, which saw a 9.38 percent increase.

On the contrast, Huizhou Cultural Tourist Area and Huangshan Mountain in the south of the province saw a year-on-year decrease of 8.57 percent and 9.33 percent, respectively.

Five scenic areas welcomed more than 100,000 tourists during the three-day break, including Balihe River, Jiuhua Mountain and Sanhe village.

Tourism revenue in Wanfo Lake Scenic Area surged 46.14 percent, followed by Balihe River and Longchuan, both at 15 percent.

Wuhu Fantawild Theme Park recorded 15.74 million yuan in tourism revenue, Jiuhua Mountain 15.68 million yuan and Huangshan Mountain 11.03 million yuan.
