Barry Lewis, leader of Britain’s Derbyshire County Council, visited East China’s Anhui province on Monday to witness the signing of a cooperation agreement.

While meeting with him, Li Guoying, governor of the province, thanked the British for his positive efforts to promote bilateral friendly cooperation.

Ever since they established friendship in November 2017, the two sides have been on a fast track for cooperation in trade, education, culture and sports, Li said.

A year ago, Li and Lewis signed an agreement in the provincial capital Hefei, marking friendship was established between Anhui and Derbyshire.

Under the agreement, the two sides would cooperate in tourism, business, culture, sci-tech, education, health care, human resources and community affairs.

Lewis was in Hefei yesterday signing an agreement in education and culture.

Li noted that the educational and cultural program to be carried out in the city would play an important part in opening the province wider and attracting talents from abroad.

Li expected Anhui and Derbyshire to expand cooperative areas and make their cooperation more productive.

Senior officials- Yu Aihua and Li Heping- attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Barry Lewis hoped that the two sides would increase visits and contacts, create new ways of cooperation and build higher-level partnership.
