An institute was opened on Tuesday in Hefei, capital of East China’s Anhui province, aiming to provide technical support for improving the environment of Chaohu Lake, one of the country’s five largest freshwater lakes.

Dozens of experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and several universities gathered in Hefei University, where the opening ceremony was held, to explore new ways of ecological control of the lake. They delivered speeches on “green development and beautiful Chaohu Lake”.

The Chaohu Lake Institute will build an open research platform in coordination with such organizations as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Science and Technology of China.

Song Guoquan, Party chief of the city, and vice mayor Wang Minsheng, attended the ceremony.
