Chery Automobile Company, one of the major homegrown car makers based in East China’s Anhui province, has seen continuous fast growth in sales of new-energy cars, Anhui Daily reported Wednesday, citing data from the company.

The firm sold 2,630 new-energy cars in May, up 55.3 percent year on year. On a monthly basis, the sales rose 26.3 percent.

In breakdown, 970 units of Chery eQ and 1,660 units of Chery eQ1 were sold.

As China’s first all-aluminum-body electric car, eQ1 registered a 63 percent month-on-month surge in sales volume in May. Launched on the Chinese market in late March, its sales reached 1,035 unit the next month.

Power comes from an electric motor mated to a lithium ion battery, good for a 100km/h top speed and a range of 180 kilometers. Charging takes six to eight hours and half an hour on a fast-charger.

The car is popular among car rental customers, the company said.

Arrizo 5e is set to hit the market in the near future, the company added. With maximum power of 90 kw and an average range of 351 kilometers, the car may outshine most other domestic counterparts.
