Local authorities issued a document mapping out new guidelines on nurturing tourism into a "major pillar industry", as part of their effort to build the industry into one of the important engines behind Anhui province's economic growth, anhuinews.com reported on Monday.

The document called for effort to boost tourism in regions including South Anhui International Culture and Torusim Demonstration Area, Hefei Metropolitan Area, Dabie Mountains, North Anhui Culture, Ecology and Tourism Area, the Anhui-section Yangtze River Basin and scenic areas along the Hefei-Fuzhou High-speed Railway.

The province will focus on a number of traveling routes to such destinations as Jiuhua Mountain, Tianzhu Mountain, Yangtze River, Xin'an River, Chaohu Lake, Dabie Mountains together with Huaihe River, according to the document.

The sector will see a boom in new forms of business like cultural tourism, sci-tech tourism, and healthcare tourism.

Services will be improved in the sector as toilets in 4A-rated or above are to meet official standards in 2018 and by 2020, 50,000 parking spots and 50 campgrounds for drivers will be built while free WiFi will be available in 3A-rated or above attractions and hotels.

Anhui aims to receive more than 880 million visitors, among whom 8 million come from overseas, and to build 5-10 world-renowned tourism brands by 2020, the document said.

The province will grow into a tourism powerhouse in 2020 as it will register over 1 trillion yuan ($145 billion) in tourism revenue, the document added.
