By the end of 2017, there had been 87 environment supervision institutions at provincial, city and county levels in Anhui. The average ratio of days of fairly good air quality in the 16 cities of the province was 66.7 percent, down by 7.6 percentage points over the previous year; the air quality of 1 city met grade-two of the national standard. The average PM10 concentration across the province was 88 mcg per cubic meter. The task assigned by the Action Plan for Air Pollution Prevention and Control at the first phase was fulfilled successfully.  8 national-level, 30 provincial-level and 66 city-and county-level natural protection and reservation districts had been set up. The newly-added area of manpower forestation was 56.9 thousand hectares, and that of forest totaled 3,958.5 thousand hectares. The total stumpage amount was 26.1451 million cubic meters, and that of forests was 22.1866 million cubic meters.

The energy consumption in 2017 totaled 130.519 million tons of SCE, up by 2.8 percent over the previous year. The electric power consumption went up by 7.1 percent, and per unit GDP energy consumption dropped by 5.3 percent.

Water quality of the Huaihe River flowing through Anhui was better, mainly at Grade III level, and that of its main tributaries was lightly polluted. Water quality of the Yangtze River through Anhui was better, mainly at Grade II level, and that of its main tributaries was good. The Chaohu Lake was moderately polluted, and 9 major branches surrounding the lake were moderately polluted. The Xi’an River and its branches were of excellent quality. The quality of 95.5 percent of urban centralized drinking water source met the standard.
