HEFEI, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- What does a pumped-storage hydroelectricity power station look like? And how does it work?

You are invited to this tour of the Xiangshuijian pumped-storage hydroelectricity power station in east China's Anhui Province.

When there is an excess of electricity in the power supply system, the plant pumps water to a higher elevation for storage. When the power is insufficient in the system, it discharges water to generate electricity. Aside from power generation, such facilities contribute to the safe, stable, and cost-effective functioning of the power system, for instance, by redistributing electricity during peak and off-peak hours.
