--Summary of Anhui's Social and Economic Development in the First Half of 2014
It's learned at the press conference hosted by the Provincial Information Office on July 22nd that Anhui's economic and social development demonstrated a stable and sound momentum in the first half of this year. According to the preliminary accounting, the province's GDP hit 935.05 billion yuan in the first half of the year. Calculated at comparable prices, it marks an increase of 9.3 percent over the corresponding period of the previous year. Among them, the primary industrial added value was 92.52 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9 percent; the secondary industrial added value, 538.79 billion yuan, a growth of 10.8 percent; the tertiary industrial added value, 303.74 billion yuan, up 8.1 percent. The total import and export value reached 146.39 billion yuan, grown by 8.9 percent compared to the same period last year; the amount of social consumption goods retail sales totaled 350.81 billion yuan, an increase of 13.1 percent, 1 percentage points higher than the nation's average.
In the first half of the year, the province's industrial added value above the designated size accounted for 461.69 billion yuan, with an increase of 12.4 percent, 3.6 percentage points higher than the nation's average. The growth ranked Anhui second in the nation and first in central China. Anhui has maintained No. 1 raking in central China for 25 consecutive months. Of which, Anhui's added value was 82.13 billion yuan in June, up 11.5 percent, 2.3 percentage points higher than the nation's average.
The rapid growth of high and new tech industry is prominent in the entire industrial economic operation. In the first half of the year, industrial added value of new and high technology industry above designated size amounted to 159.19 billion yuan, up 14.9 percent. The growth was 2.5 percentage points higher than the overall industry, with a contribution rate of 40.3 percent to entire industrial growth.
Meanwhile, the contribution of manufacturing to industrial economic growth above designated size kept on rising. Of which, manufacturing industry realized an industrial added value of 394.75 billion yuan, growing 13.5 percent. The industrial added value registered by the equipment manufacturing sector was increased by 13.8 percent.
The province's small and medium size enterprises all together realized 297.35 billion yuan of industrial added value and its private sector realized 307.89 billion yuan of industrial added value in the first half of the year, with a growth of 15.5 percent. Its contribution to the entire industrial growth was about 78.2 percent. Thus, small and medium-sized enterprises and private enterprises played an important role in stimulating the economy of province.
What is worth mentioning is that the electronic information industry "catch up from behind" to rank forefront among all the 40 industrial growth. Among the province's 40 industrial sector above designated size, 39 industrial sectors maintained a good momentum of growth in the first half of the year.
The smooth operation of the economy benefits from the promotion of structural adjustment. In the growth of GDP, the proportion of service industry increased from 32.1 percent in the same period last year to 32.5 percent. While in the industrial growth, high-tech industries, equipment manufacturing industries increased by 24.9 percent and 13.8 percent respectively, 2.5 percentage points and 1.4 percentage points higher than the entire industries above designated size. In terms of investment, investment in technological renovation and investment in the equipment manufacturing industry increased respectively from 22.4 percent and 18.6 percent in the same period last year to 23.9 percent and 19 percent.
The people's livelihood continued to improve. In the first half of the year, the government spending was 216.14 billion yuan, up 11.3 percent. Among them, 178 billion yuan was spent on the people's livelihood, up 13.2 percent, accounting for 82.4 percent of the province's total financial expenditure. The growth of expenditure on social security and employment, medical care and health, urban and rural community affairs, and housing security were higher than the province's average.
