Achievements made in 2019

On January 12, 2020, the 3rd session of the 13th Provincial People’s Congress of Anhui was scheduled to convene in Hefei. Governor Li Guoying delivered a report on the government’s work to the congress. The report reviews the main work in 2019. Following is what Anhui has achieved in the past year.

 

The province’s comprehensive strength was further enhanced

Its GDP increased by more than 7.5 percent.

Investment in fixed assets increased by more than 9 percent.

Total retail sales of social consumer goods increased by 10.5 percent.

Total import and export volume increased by more than 7 percent.

Industrial added value above designated size increased by 7.3 percent.

Total grain output reached 40.54 billion kg, making 16th consecutive year with grain harvest.

Additional tax and fees cuts reached 81.36 billion yuan, with fiscal revenue increasing by 6.5 percent.

Economic aggregate target for the “13th Five-year Plan” was achieved one year ahead of schedule.

 

Implementation of the Yangtze River Delta integration development strategy was started robustly

Anhui has officially become an important part of the Yangtze River Delta. It has been entrusted with the strategic mission of building an influential hub of scientific and technological innovation, a cluster of emerging industries and a model area for green development.

 

New achievements were made for high-quality development

More than 1,200 new high-tech enterprises were established, with the output value of strategic emerging industries increasing by 14.7 percent and the added value of high-tech industries increasing by 18.8 percent.

 

New progresses have been made in the construction of the hub of scientific and technological innovation

 

Seven scientists were elected academicians of either CAS or CAE.

Eight scientific and technological achievements won National Science and Technology Awards.

The number of invention patents per ten thousand people has reached 11.7.

The regional innovation capability has been ranked forefront in the country for the 8th consecutive year.

Scientists from USTC simulated quantum computer with up to 48 quantum bits using optical cold atoms in the world.

The country’s first 8.5-generation ultra-thin float glass substrate was independently developed in Bengbu.

The first domestically produced and independently developed dynamic random access memory chip was launched in Hefei.

 

Progress were achieved in the “three tough battles” of preventing financial risks, reducing poverty and tackling pollution

It is estimated that the remaining 9 poverty-stricken counties and 64 poverty-stricken villages had all shaken off poverty. The annual target of 400,000 poverty-stricken residents to be lifted out of poverty was fully achieved, with the incidence of poverty dropping to 0.16 percent from the originally registered 0.93 percent.

Risks in key areas were effectively prevented and controlled, and energy consumption per unit of GDP decreased by 3 percent.

The average concentration of PM 2.5 throughout the province was 46 micrograms/ cubic meter.

 

Infrastructure has been continuously improved

Construction of Yangtz-Huaihe Diversion Megaproject was in full swing.

Renovation and extension of Hefei Xinqiao International Airport was started.

All of Anhui’s 16 cities have access to high-speed railways.

 

People’s livelihood and well-being continued to improve

The per capita disposable income for urban residents increased by more than 9 percent, while for rural residents, by more than 10 percent. Anhui was ranked foremost for both of the categories in the country.

The integration of basic healthcare insurance and critical illness insurance for urban and rural residents have been realized.
